Abstract

Metacognition is important in teaching and learning activities. Metacognitive knowledge is a component of metacognition. A person will be guided to select, evaluate, review, and decide on cognitive tasks with metacognitive knowledge. In Indonesia metacognitive knowledge is one type of knowledge that must be obtained by high school students. It is contained in the High School Competence of mathematics subjects. In the process of learning mathematics, solving problems is one of the standard processes that must exist. The relationship of metacognitive knowledge and problem solving to mathematics is that metacognitive knowledge can help students determine feedback while solving problems and the feedback provides an opportunity to retrieve actions more precisely than ever. Based on the relationship between metacognitive knowledge in solving the mathematical problems, the researcher conducted a study titled “The Use of Metacognitive Knowledge on Core Competence of High School Students in Solving Mathematical Problems”. The goal is to provide a description of the use of metacognitive knowledge in solving mathematical problems. The research was conducted on the third semester students of UIN STS Jambi. This research uses qualitative approach of descriptive type. The main instruments are researchers and supporting instruments are problem solving sheets and interview guides. From the results of the study concluded that metacognitive knowledge helps a person know the truth and mistakes done in solving the problem. It also helps to locate the error in solving the problem.
